CABARET FOR CARE
A benefit for The Boston Home
5:30 - VIP Reception and 7pm - Cabaret Performance
The evening will feature Emmy-winning writer and comic Jonathan Katz, Boston musical theater favorite Kathy St. George, and long-time arts & entertainment critic Joyce Kulhawik as Emcee. A VIP reception will precede the event at the adjacent Radisson Hotel Boston.
Zany playwright Chrisopher Durang (Miss Witherspoon) sends up the beloved film
noir genre in this hilarious and boisterous new musical parody, mixing farce,
camp, and tongue-in-cheek wit in his trademark style. It's 1952 in the Far East
- an era of shadowy settings, sultry women, and mysterious, trench-coated
villains in back alleys. Peter Melnick, grandson of composer Richard Rodgers,
contributes a pastiche score that evokes the sounds of Kurt Weill, big bands,
and smoky nightclubs.
